Home Hacks To Fight Sensitivity

Fight Sensitivity at Home

You’re not alone to experience tooth sensitivity if that makes you feel a little relieved. However, to live with a sensitive tooth is not a good idea. Plus, trying to remedy it all by yourself is also not a bright idea because if you delay getting the treatment done, you may either have to remove your infected tooth or get a root canal procedure done.

Tooth pain can be excruciating. This is not to intimidate you but to warn you of the consequences. When you suffer from sensitive teeth, pain is the only constant and you will be afraid to consume cold or hot foods and beverages. Breathing in cold air can also cause pain.

That’s why we recommend that if you live in Downtown Edmonton, pay a visit to our Jasper Ave dental clinic at the earliest. However, if it’s not possible due to xyz reasons, you can always try these home hacks to fight teeth sensitivity.

Maintain Good Oral Hygiene

This goes without saying, however, sometimes after having a tiring day, we may skip brushing our teeth before going to bed. If you have a sensitive tooth, missing out on brushing your teeth even once may lead to painful consequences. Hence, you should make sure that no matter what happens you brush your teeth twice in a day. This improves your oral health, reduce the effects of acid attacks from plaque and food, and help in preventing cavities and other gum diseases.

Change your Diet

This is a difficult thing to do, however, if you avoid visiting a dentist, you will have to change your diet. Avoid consuming acidic, sweet, and sour foods at all costs. Consuming such foods will only aggravate your tooth sensitivity and cause more problems. Rinse your mouth regularly with water or chew sugarless gum after you eat your meals to reduce the effects of acid.

Use the Best Dental Products

Use a desensitizing toothpaste which contains compounds that help block transmissions of sensation from the tooth surface to the nerve. Consider using toothpastes that have the CDA Seal of Recognition. If your tooth sensitivity is in its infant stage, after using such desensitizing toothpastes you feel a difference within a week or 10 days. Use dental products that contain fluoride. A tooth surface that has been demineralized by bacterial acids, fluoride can help remineralize or strengthen the tooth. So make sure you use a toothpaste and mouthwash that has a high content of fluoride in them.

Baking Soda

When the enamel goes for a toss, there is a lot of pain and discomfort. Plus, your teeth also starts getting damaged. The enamel would soften over time and aggravate the situation when more saliva is produced in the mouth. In a teaspoon of water, add baking soda and form it into a paste, and then apply it over the affected tooth. After ten minutes, rinse your mouth and do this every day. This will help in desensitizing the teeth’s nerve endings, and in turn, will help in strengthening the enamel.

Apart from all these hacks, you can also add a tiny drop of clove oil to your toothpaste for desensitizing. Our best advice will still remain the same, to visit our Jasper Ave dental clinic and get your tooth checked. Good teeth are a sign of good health, and who wouldn’t want dazzling pearly whites?
